The council are proposing to spend €150 million developing the vacant 'Opera Site' by the Library. However their plans are for 5 star office blocks, with not a single apartment.
We are in the middle of a housing crisis, with a real shortage of affordable, quality accomodation in the city centre. We need this site developed as a vibrant place to live, work and socialise - not another dead zone after 6pm.
There is a growing campaign for a #LiveableLimerick, however this must also be an #AffordableLimerick. Building quality social and affordable accomodation for people to rent or buy as part of this development would be an important first step.
It's not too late. We have until August 25th to make submissions and then in September or October the councillors will vote on the final plan.
Come to this information meeting to see the council's plans, learn how you can make a submission, and discuss how we can build a campaign for a #LiveableLimerick and also an #AffordableLimerick
NOTE: The meeting is completely free, but people are welcome ot buy tea or coffee. Chez le Fab is in the old tourist information office in Arthurs' Quay park, and is dog friendly. After the meeting they have their weekly open mic night, so feel free to stick around to see some of Limerick's up and coming talent.
